Biafra Update: Igbo NASS caucus “works quietly to free Nnamdi Kanu” – Ekweremadu

Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy Speaker of the Senate, revealed efforts to secure the release of pro-Biafra agitator Nnamdi Kanu.

Ekweremadu revealed that the Southeast caucus in the National Assembly is working “quietly” to find a political solution that would lead to Kanu’s release.

He gave a talk titled: “The Igbo in the Diaspora: A Perspective” delivered virtually in Pretoria, South Africa, on Sunday, and featured in a statement issued by his media advisor, Uche Anichukwu.

The former vice president of the Senate said that the Caucus had in the past sought a political solution for agitators in the region.

He urged Igbo in the diaspora to speak out against the violent unrest, while ensuring security and stability in the Southeast.

According to Ekweremadu: “Let me also assure you that the Southeastern Caucus of the National Assembly is not resting on its oars.

“We are working quietly and surely to resolve these issues, including finding a political solution to the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu affair.

“We have already done it in the case of Chief Ralph Uwazuruike in 2007. We have also done it in the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in 2017. And God willing, and with your support and your prayers, we will succeed in again in the Nnamdi Kanu case to promote peace and stability in our region.

Kanu was arrested in Kenya and repatriated.

He is currently being held by the Department of State Services, DSS.

The Biafran agitator expects to appear before the Federal High Court headed by Judge Binta Nyako in Abuja to continue his trial for alleged treason.
